Georgia State scored first Saturday afternoon, which I guess is a pattern we have to deal with, but that did not matter at all in the grand scheme, as NC State ran away with a 41-7 win. Ryan Finley accounted for 370 yards passing and two scores through the air.
NC State did not play quickly in the heat of another noon game in September, but also it did not have to, because the Panthers were not up to that challenge. It could have been worse, but State wasn’t too bothered by the elements, even with Jakobi Meyers out with an ankle injury.
Kelvin Harmon went for 129 yards on 10 catches, and Thayer Thomas—who is definitely a capital-F Factor in this season—went for 114 yards and a score. They made the passing game work, and helped NC State break open a game that was otherwise close through the first couple quarters.
It didn’t end close. NC State out-scored Georgia State 21-0 coming out of the break, and the Panthers couldn’t find a passing game while Dan Ellington was bottled up to the tune of 30 yards on 10 carries. State’s defense handled the run threat from Ellington really well, and the Panthers could not make enough happen through the air. The defense was outstanding today, leaving GSU without purchase.
On to West Virginia. Should be fun.
