NC State heads to Wake Forest as 8.5-point underdog

It appears that Vegas is finally on to us. It took several putrid road performances by NC State to get us here, but the faith in the Wolfpack is gone. NC State is a hefty 8.5-point underdog at Wake Forest this week, and that’s after the line opened at Wake -7.

I don’t know what I really expected out of this season, but I can’t say I figured we’d be looking at this level of underdog status in Winston-Salem. Not that it’s unwarranted, mind you. It ain’t like things tend to go well for us over there even when Wake isn’t so good.

Wake Forest might be the second-best team in the ACC this season and has already handled a pair of teams (FSU, Boston College) that beat the Pack soundly.

Between their ACC championship team and this one, the Deacs have had some impeccable timing. This year they aren’t anything particularly special, but they have one of the best quarterbacks in the league to help separate them from the excessive amount of mediocrity elsewhere. It’s entirely possible for the Deacs to end up in the Orange Bowl this season.
