The surest sign of a bad offense is that it doesn’t seem to matter the quality of the defense on the other side. NC State this season has been equal-opportunity with its poor efforts, whether it was against Clemson or Boston College. The Wolfpack managed only 20 points agianst Louisville over the weekend, and the Cardinals’ defense ranks only 87th in SP+.
If NC State couldn’t manage more than 24 points against either of the league’s worst two defenses (BC, Louisville), what are the odds that the Pack hits 30 in a game again this season?
Georgia Tech is terrible, sure, but its defense actually ain’t so bad: 53rd in SP+. UNC’s ranks 71st. Plenty of opportunity here to actually show some progress to close out the season for Devin Leary, but at this point it’s fair to wonder if he’s even capable of leading the offense to something like a B+ performance against anybody with a literal pulse. I’ll watch anyway, hoping just the same.
