NC State defensive line coach Kevin Patrick takes assistant job with Florida Atlantic

Yet more staff turnover in Raleigh.

[Update: Doeren made the call to move on here, per Inside Pack Sports.]

The staff changes within the NC State football program continue, though I don’t know if this one was planned. NC State defensive line coach Kevin Patrick has been announced as the new outside linebackers coach at Florida Atlantic. FAU recently hired Willie Taggart as its new head coach.

Patrick joined the NC State staff in 2017 to replace Ryan Nielsen, who left for an assistant job with the New Orleans Saints. He came to the Wolfpack after spending a year at Texas Tech.

His new gig at FAU doesn’t feel like a promotion so perhaps his departure from NC State was mutual. He’s also never coached a position other than defensive line, but he is a Florida guy—he played at Miami—and has a lot of history coaching in his home state. Maybe this was simply about a desire to go back.

In any case, NC State has another defensive assistant vacancy to fill.
