NC State got some great news Tuesday with the announcement from Coastal Carolina sophomore transfer defensive end Jeffrey Gunter that he’ll be joining the Wolfpack program. Gunter is accepting an offer as a blueshirt, per Pack Pride’s Michael Clark.

Blueshirting is a way to get around scholarship limits in a certain recruiting cycle—so he will not be on scholarship officially until the fall. None of this affects his undergraduate transfer status and he’ll sit out the 2019 season.
Gunter committed to Syracuse a couple of weeks ago, but when presented with the opportunity at State, the Durham-native changed his mind. Can’t blame him on that one.
He had an excellent sophomore campaign for the Chanticleers, tallying 49 tackles in 12 games. He led Coastal in tackles for loss with 14 and sacks with five. He should be able to step right into the rotation at defensive end once he’s eligible to play.
