Prominent players sitting out NC State spring game include Ricky Person, Larrell Murchison

NC State is heading into its spring game on Saturday with some question marks in unfamiliar areas—quarterback being the most prominent among them. The spring scrimmage is often super instructive, but it also provides us the best looks we’re going to get at players who are battling for playing time.

And there will be a lot of opportunities for newcomers and reserves to make an impression because more than a dozen players will be sitting out the game because they’re banged up. Running back Ricky Person is one of them, unfortunately—we’ve yet to really see him at 100%.

Defensive tackle Larrell Murchison is also out, as is offensive lineman Justin Witt, both guys who are expected to be important parts of the team come fall. Veteran starting cornerback Nick McCloud is also sidelined, as is former elite linebacker recruit Payton Wilson, who is almost all the way back from a major knee injury but has no reason to risk himself at this point in the offseason.
