NC State remained undefeated in spring football games on Saturday, and it’s always nice to start off the year with a win, ain’t it. There were a lot of starters missing from action, but all three of the quarterbacks competing for the starting job got plenty of burn.
While everybody understandably was most curious about the quarterback play, it was freshman running back Zonovan Knight—who goes by “Bam,” I learned—who stole the show. Knight finished the afternoon with 139 yards rushing and had a 76-yard rushing touchdown. He looked the part of an immediate contributor.
Matt McKay: 14-24, 182 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT
Devin Leary: 12-23, 102 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT
Bailey Hockman: 12-23, 135 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT
Based on what I saw yesterday I feel like McKay has a bit of an edge on the other two—he’s been in the program longer and just looks more comfortable. But all of the quarterbacks had their moments, and with all the shuffling of players, not to mention the fact that the entire starting offensive line sat out, I’m not judging anything with much confidence.
