A lot balances on the quality of the quarterback play for NC State this fall, and while you can’t escape that obviousness, I get the sense that Dave Doeren is barely internalizing a chuckle about this. Like he wants to tell everybody, wants to share what he’s seen, but there is no shouting at the moon this time of year, it just looks bad.
When you step back and think about it, it’s crazy how good NC State has had it at quarterback. We’ve gone from Philip Rivers to a blip no one wants to talk about to Russell Wilson to Jacoby Brissett and Ryan Finley.
These are difficult standards to find, but State has done it routinely. I’m looking forward to the next one, which is Matt McKay, the sly certainty that Doeren and his staff aren’t willing to really talk about at this point. Like a trump card in their back pocket, they nod toward it without speaking about it specifically. Watch out.
