NC State is No. 46 in ESPN’s preseason Football Power Index

FPI gets dumped on a lot because it is an ESPN creation, but really it shares a lot of the same nuts and bolts as S&P+; both are pretty solid evaluative tools. Now with that said, NC State is only 46th in the latest FPI projections, and this is an outrage!

I’m just kiddin’. NC State is pegged almost identically by S&P+, which has the Wolfpack at No. 47 overall. S&P+ gives NC State a win probability of at least 50 percent in nine of 12 games, while FPI does so in 10 of 12. (Big difference is FPI doesn’t like West Virginia nearly as much as S&P+.

FPI projects five ACC teams to be better than NC State in 2019: Clemson, Florida State, Miami, Virginia Tech, and Virginia. Seven ACC schools rank between 40th and 60th, which is the sweet spot for inevitable college football chaos. Well, I mean, it seems like it should be.
