NC State offensive tackle Tyrone Riley out for season with injury

With game week comes the first alarming development of football season, alas. Dave Doeren announced on Monday that veteran offensive tackle Tyrone Riley will not play this season because of a foot injury. NC State is asking the NCAA to grant him a sixth year of eligibility.

Riley may not have been a starter this season but he definitely would have been in the rotation up front; he appeared in all 13 games last year, making a pair of starts, and was on the field for 253 snaps. That qualifies as a lot of experience for an offensive lineman on this roster.

There are three true freshmen offensive linemen listed on State’s initial two-deep to go with one redshirt freshman and three redshirt sophomores. State has pretty much no room for additional attrition up front but probably won’t be that lucky. I’m sure the coaches plan to work in the younger players where they can but if they have to force the issue, we may be in some trouble.
