NC State ended up covering the spread in week one without trouble, but doing the same in week two will a bit more of a challenge simply because the spread is so huge. The Wolfpack opened as a 40.5-point favorite over Western Carolina.
The Catamounts opened the 2019 season with a 49-27 loss to Mercer, and that does not bode particularly well for this weekend. Of note in that one, WCU managed only 127 yards rushing on 3.3 yards per carry. In the first half alone, the Catamounts surrendered big touchdown plays of 32 yards, 85 yards, and 64 yards. Not ideal!
Western Carolina finished 2018 at just 3-8 overall, a record that included a three-score loss to UNC. Only one of WCU’s wins last season came in Southern Conference play.
So it isn’t likely we’ll learn much of anything about NC State in this game—barring some sort of sloppy disaster of an effort, at least.
