Cornerback Nick McCloud will not be playing his final college season at NC State. The senior is entering the transfer portal, per Inside Pack Sports, and that is a significant blow to the Wolfpack’s 2020 secondary. The portal claims another!
Fortunately for us, the year is 1920, and the forward pass has yet to become anything more than a figment of the imagination, so we’ll have no problems at all operating without a secondary. /uncontrollable sobbing
So, uh, yeah, this ain’t good, and unexpected as far as I know. McCloud spent virtually the entire 2019 season out with an injury and took a redshirt, I thought, with the aim of returning to play a major role next season. Whoops. He is a graduate transfer and will be eligible elsewhere next fall.
I’ll be curious to see where he lands, since he’s definitely a solid player but wasn’t an all-conference guy. If he can find a higher-profile destination, then moving on isn’t a bad idea on his part. Sucks for us though.
He started 21 games at NC State, which is not a level of experience the program is in any position to replace.
