As mentioned in our look at several candidates for the position, Wiley is not only familiar with the region and the conference after having coached at VT for 24 years, he has also worked the last four years at VT with new Cornerbacks Coach Brian Mitchell. Mitchell previously worked with new Defensive Coordinator Tony Gibson at West Virginia before he went to Virginia Tech.
More than just continuing the theme of the coaching connections within the defensive staff, Virginia Tech has put together one of the more consistently impressive defensive lines during Wiley’s tenure there. This is a fantastic hire for Dave Doeren and the Wolfpack.
