NC State opens as a 10-point underdog against Virginia

NCAA Football: Duke at Virginia Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

After Saturday, NC State’s status as a big Vegas underdog doesn’t feel quite so much like a death sentence. Funny how that works. The Wolfpack was a two-touchdown underdog against Pitt, and it heads into the third game of its road trip a 10-point underdog against Virginia. No biggie!

The Cavaliers are 1-1 this season following their 41-23 defeat at Clemson—UVA trailed by at least two scores for the final 35 minutes and change, but that’s the delight that is having to play the Clemson Tigers. (It’s kinda nice for once to be able to observe Clemson at arm’s length knowing State doesn’t play the Tigers.)

UVA opened its season with a decisive win over Duke.

So far this season, the Wahoos have been pretty good on the ground, averaging 4.5 yards per carry, while the passing game has been a bit of an adventure with new starting quarterback Brennan Armstrong, who has thrown four picks in 88 attempts while averaging a meager 6.1 yards per attempt. Maybe State can manage a turnover this week? Maybe possibly?
