Florida State’s defense might not be any good, but nonetheless give Bailey Hockman lots of credit for playing well for the second straight weekend. He’s really stepped up to fill the void and the Wolfpack nearly hit 40 points again.
Hockman completed over 70% of his pass attempts, and nearly half of his completions went to Thayer Thomas, who pulled in a career-high 11 catches and scored twice. The Hockman-Thomas connection delivered several big third down conversions and State was 10-15 on third downs, a big component to the victory.
It was a pleasant surprise to see the Pack come out and own this game start to finish, giving FSU little reason to believe it could win. That’s exactly what you want to do against a team that’s down on itself and struggling.
NC State needs one more win to guarantee a winning regular season record and a winning league record. With three games left, that’s an encouraging place for this program to be after 2019.
