There may not be another team in college football that’s been hit as hard by attrition as Syracuse this year, and at this point, it doesn’t look like the Orange have anything left in the tank. If the whole team wanted to opt out now, I wouldn’t blame them.
NC State opened as a 15-point road favorite against Syracuse, and that alone tells you plenty about what the Orange have been through. Syracuse has lost six straight games, including a 30-0 defeat at Louisville on Friday night.
Syracuse first-string quarterback Tommy DeVito hasn’t played since early October, and the team has a rough situation at offensive line as well. The Orange have only scored more than 24 points in a game once this year—that came in a 38-point outburst against Georgia Tech, which is also the only game Syracuse has won.
The Orange have been limited to 14 points or fewer in three consecutive games, so this is a good opportunity for NC State’s defense to build on its performance against Liberty.
