Highlights! NC State works around its own stupidity to defeat Syracuse

NCAA Football: North Carolina State at Syracuse Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports

NC State fell behind 22-14 under circumstances that are frankly too stupid to reiterate, because I don’t want to talk about that first half again — but this was the halftime reality today. It wasn’t ideal, but it was the circumstances.

And so NC State had to pry its way out from that eight-point deficit during the second half; and pry it did! Thanks largely to Thayer Thomas, who had a hell of a game.

You’d not be faulted for doubting this team as the second half got underway, but as Alec wrote this week, this is a team well past any football-related calamity. They don’t always play smart, but they also recognize their own mistakes, and then they get after it.

The best estimation of a team’s quality is its margin for error. You don’t want to rely on said margin all the time, but when you have to, you have your priors, and the kids can work with it, because they’ve been there, and Syracuse is hardly a challenge. Thankfully.
