NC State’s NFL Draft hopefuls likely will wait a while to hear their names called

The NFL Draft begins on Thursday night with the first round but now that the event is a protracted three-day affair, it requires a whole lot of patience from the majority of eligible prospects. That includes the two NC State players most likely to hear their names called at some point: James Smith-Williams and Larrell Murchison.

Murchison is likely to be the first off the board, though certainly that won’t be on Thursday, and may not be until Saturday, when rounds four through seven take place.

After a brief search for full seven-round mock drafts, the most optimistic projection for Murchison I found is from CBS Sports, which has him going in the fourth round to the Las Vegas Raiders. He’s a fifth-rounder (Saints) in this mock from Dane Brugler at The Athletic, which I’ve mentioned before, and a sixth-rounder (Bengals) in the estimation of Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller.

CBS Sports and The Athletic have James Smith-Williams going in the sixth round, to the Jets and Cardinals, respectively, while Bleacher Report has him going to the Browns in the seventh.

NC State doesn’t figure to have anyone else drafted this year, though others (Emmanuel McGirt, perhaps?) may get a shot as undrafted free agents.
