NC State football picked to finish 11th in the ACC

You will never guess which team was picked first!

NCAA Football: Clemson at North Carolina State Rob Kinnan-USA TODAY Sports

There are no divisions this season, so the ACC preseason football media poll looks like a basketball poll gone horribly wrong. NC State is predicted to finish 11th, ahead of Duke, Syracuse, Boston College, and Georgia Tech. Clemson is the runaway pick to win the league again, of course, though Notre Dame did earn a couple first-place votes.

ACC Preseason Poll

(First-place votes in parenthesis, followed by total points)

1. Clemson (132) – 2008 (also picked to win ACC Football Championship Game)

2. Notre Dame (2) – 1824

3. North Carolina – 1682

4. Louisville – 1434

5. Virginia Tech – 1318

6. Miami – 1280

7. Florida State – 1177

8. Pitt – 1132

9. Virginia – 994

10. Wake Forest – 659

11. NC State – 634

12. Duke – 618

13. Boston College – 532

14. Syracuse – 449

15. Georgia Tech – 339

If you prefer the more traditional accounting, NC State has been picked fifth in the Atlantic based on the above voting.

The preseason all-conference teams also were released, and NC State’s lone representative is punter Trenton Gill. Trevor Lawrence is the preseason Player of the Year even though Travis Etienne has won that honor two years in a row. Also, someone voted for Chazz Surratt for some reason. What, is he gonna have 200 tackles and save a baby from a burning building every week?
