Spring football practice got underway at NC State recently, providing the latest small step toward some normalcy. And spring ball usually comes with some recognition for players who work hard behind the scenes but go unnoticed on game days.
One such player at State is Demarcus Jones, a redshirt freshman running back who played his high school ball at Wake Forest. Dave Doeren awarded the walk-on a scholarship yesterday:

Jones isn’t likely to ever crack the rotation at running back, but last year he played in all 12 games for the Wolfpack on special teams. It’s not a huge role, but it definitely matters, and now he’s got some free schoolin’ to show for his efforts. Congrats, Demarcus.
