NC State head football coach Dave Doeren has agreed to a two-year contract extension that will take him through 2025, per a report from Pete Thamel. The extension also comes with a pay bump from $3.25 to $3.5 million annually, as well as raises for his assistants.
This is partly a reward for a good 2020 season and partly procedural—it helps with recruiting if you can show recruits and their families that you’re under contract for the duration of their potential time on campus. You don’t have to read anything more into the development than that.
But Doeren has also earned the extra years by getting the program back onto solid footing after the rough 2019 season. The team bounced back nicely despite a lot of uncertainty and is about as deep across the board as it’s ever been under Doeren’s leadership. None of this is going to satisfy the section of the fan base that is impatient with Doeren at this point, but those people don’t deserve happiness anyway.
