NC State remains a heavy favorite to defeat USF in Week 1

NCAA Football: North Carolina State at Syracuse Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports

Baseball was such a force of welcome distraction in June that I feel like I’m still getting caught up on everything else, like I’ve been away from the house for a month or something. Is the football team okay? Did someone water the plants and feed the offensive line?

Near as I can tell, nothing caught on fire within the football program while I was gone. And a recent Week 1 odds update from Vegas still has NC State as a big favorite to get out of the opening weekend with a win over USF.

The Wolfpack is a three-score favorite in all of the lines that I’ve seen so far, and if anything it appears those margins have moved in State’s favor since some of them were released in the spring. As USF did not, as far as I know, bring in several of the Avengers to help on defense, the trend makes sense.

We’re less than eight weeks away from the opener now, and this State team has fewer offseason question marks than any I can remember. Here’s hoping for an injury-free August.
