After shutting out South Florida in the opener, 45-0, NC State finds itself sitting just barely outside of the Top 25 in both the AP and Coaches polls. The Wolfpack received 69 points in the AP poll, just 14 points shy of cracking the Top 25, effectively putting the team at #27 this week. There’s a lot more work to do in the Coaches poll, where the Pack are 100 points out of the 25th spot and come in at #29 overall.
The ACC as a whole took a tumble in the rankings this week. All three conference squads that were ranked in the preseason fell in both polls (Clemson down to 6th in both, UNC down to 24th in the AP and 22nd in the Coaches, and Miami down to 22nd in the AP and 24th in the Coaches), although Virginia Tech did vault into both polls (19th AP, 21st Coaches) after beating the Tar Heels.
As for the advanced metrics, NC State jumped from #31 up to #19 in the Sagarin Rankings. SP+ updated rankings should be out later today or tomorrow.
In the Sagarin Ratings, the Wolfpack are the second highest ranked ACC team behind Clemson (#6), with Virginia Tech (#30) the next closest behind the Pack. That Jeff Sagarin - what can you say? Great guy.
