It’s rivalry/hate week, and it’s a lot more compelling that it looked like it was going to be a month ago. But NC State has won four straight and hit its stride on both sides of the ball, while UNC has dropped three of five since a 6-0 start.

The result is two teams with the same record that have taken very different routes to get there The Tar Heels are a modest favorite, though I think we’re all feeling a lot more optimistic about this matchup than we had been.

UNC’s defense has allowed at least 31 points in its last five games against FBS teams, including 46 to Georgia Tech and 45 to Duke. It appeared early in the season that perhaps the Heels’ defense had a chance to be good, but lately not so much.

There’s still Drake Maye to contend with, but playing under the lights, and well past Mack Brown’s bed time, can only help. Should be fun.
