As posted to his Instagram account last night, NC State CB Adyan White will enter the transfer portal and look for a new home in 2024. This is a huge loss for the Wolfpack as White is one of the best cornerbacks in the conference, if not the nation, having earned 1st Team All-ACC honors in 2022 and 3rd Team honors in 2023. A return to Raleigh would have bolstered the Pack’s 2024 defense. Instead, the Pack will need several of the younger options on the roster to step up into an expanded role next season, or the coaching staff will need to hit the transfer portal for additional reinforcements.
A four-year member of the Wolfpack and two-year starter, White registered 100 tackles over his NC State career, including 5.5 TFL, and 2.0 sacks. He picked off 8 passes while breaking up 25 others, and returned one of those picks for a TD.
The timing is interesting, coming the day after the semifinal round of the College Football Playoffs. Complete conjecture here without even a shred of inside knowledge, but that would seem to indicate that one of the two teams eliminated (Alabama, Texas) reached out to White with a “theoretical” NIL deal, and given how the Longhorns DBs were torched repeatedly by Washington’s passing attack on Monday night, Texas might be looking to upgrade their pass defense before heading to the SEC next year.
Many expected White to potentially go the NFL route after the 2023 season, but apparently he didn’t receive the draft feedback he had hoped for after the season ended and/or potential NIL deals elsewhere are more enticing.
Best of luck to White in the future, just so long as he doesn’t go the Jakeen Harris route (what the hell is even that?!).
