The men’s soccer team delivered a much-needed upset win over No. 1 UNC in front of a sold-out home crowd on Friday night. The win snapped a three-game winless streak in league play for the Wolfpack.
NC State got on the board early in the second half thanks to an outstanding individual effort from David Loera, who managed to dance his way past a gaggle of UNC players and bury the opportunity from the left side.

UNC finished the game with significant edges in shots and corners, but it’s the scoreboard that counts. This was the Tar Heels’ first loss in conference play.
NC State improved to 2-3-1 in ACC play and will wrap up the regular season later this month with games against Syracuse and Clemson. The Pack is 8-3-1 overall and undefeated at home. They’ll get an important RPI boost from taking down the Heels, who rank No. 2 in that regard.
