Unfortunately, the hockey season is over for the NC State Wolfpack. The hockey team is known as the Icepack. I wish I could’ve joined during the season, but I will be posting a summary of their season, and what we can expect for the next season. They are a club hockey team, meaning they don’t get the recognition they deserve or even the coverage. As a club (I believe D1), they don’t get scouts. Unfortunately, they can’t get the funding to be at a higher level of competition, such as the NCAA.
It’s truly heartbreaking that these guys put their heart and soul into their game, and for what? No one is going to reward their efforts with a tryout. Yes, I know that a lot of the professional hockey players went undrafted. However, I’m not sure how that works, so if anyone can enlighten me, please do. The only fans at the home games consist of NC State students, a local hockey player’s fans, and if they are from the Raleigh/Durham area-their parents. Most of these guys are playing away from home, and in a different continent all together. The Icepack are a great group of guys and I can’t wait to see where the next season takes them. I wish the guys who have since graduated, the best of luck in their future and I will sure miss them on the ice with the rest of the boys.
