NC State up to No. 6 in Directors’ Cup standings

It’s been a great year for the athletics department.

A lot of sports have been thriving at NC State this year, and if you need some evidence of that, it’s right here in the latest Directors’ Cup standings: the Wolfpack ranks sixth nationally, and tops in the ACC.

In this latest update, State got points from both indoor track and field teams, wrestling, and women’s swimming. Before the athletic year is done, NC State will also get points from men’s swimming (likely top-five finish), women’s basketball, and baseball. Gymnastics, tennis, track (outdoor), golf, and softball could also add points.

So NC State looks like it is headed for a historic finish in the Directors’ Cup—State’s department has never finished a year in the top 25, and putting an end to that would be impressive enough. If State manages to stay in the top 10—I have no clue how feasible that is—it would be an incredible accomplishment, especially considering that the school’s budget is below average for a power-conference school.
