It did not take NC State shortstop Will Wilson long to come to an agreement with the Los Angeles Angels, who took him at No. 15 overall in the 2019 MLB Draft. Wilson signed for a bonus of $3.4 million (a bit below the $3.89 million slot value of the pick) on Monday, officially bringing his Wolfpack career to an end.
He was in Los Angeles to sign his contract yesterday and paid a visit to the booth during the Angels’ television broadcast. Wilson says he got a text from Mike Trout to congratulate him on being drafted.
We have agreed to terms with 2019 first-round draft pick Will Wilson.

The downside to Wilson being drafted by a west coast club is that it won’t be convenient for the majority of State fans to watch him in the minors. If he’s shipped off to A-ball first, he’ll be playing for the Burlington Bees, in lovely Burlington, ... Iowa. The Angels’ AA team is in Mobile, Alabama, and its AAA squad is in Salt Lake City. Alas.
Here’s hoping for a swift rise through the ranks.
Wilson and Evan Edwards are the only Wolfpack draftees who’ve signed a pro contract at this point.
