Sam Hunt and Abdul-Malik Abu playing for Team CP3 in The Basketball Tournament

NCAA Basketball: Florida State at North Carolina State Rob Kinnan-USA TODAY Sports

The Basketball Tournament (catchy name, ain’t it) is an annual 64-team, winner-take-all event where the champs take home $2 million. NC State has some alums participating this year: Sam Hunt and Abdul-Malik Abu are teammates on Team CP3, which advanced to the round of 32 with a three-point win on Friday.

Team CP3 is headed by coach/GM Chris Paul and has a lot of ACC flavor to it: Hunt and Abu, plus PJ Hairston, Kennedy Meeks’ forehead, Reggie Johnson, and Aaron Rountree. If they win the tournament, the players will take home shares of at least $100,000.

Abu did not see the court in the first game, while Hunt played about 12 minutes and missed a couple of three-point attempts. They will be back at it on Saturday night at 7 p.m. against a team of Clemson alums. The game will air on ESPN3, if you’re desperate for hoops of some kind.

Cat Barber also participated this year, but alas his team was bounced in the opening round. He scored 14 points in the defeat.
