After 16 years with the San Diego Chargers, former NC State quarterback Philip Rivers has a new home in the NFL: Indianapolis. Rivers and the Colts agreed to a one-year deal worth $25 million on Tuesday. Rivers will replace fellow NC State alum Jacoby Brissett under center—which is a weird thing to write.
We’ll see if Rivers has one more run at the playoffs in him; I wish he’d gotten out of San Diego sooner since postseason success was so elusive there, but then again I can’t blame a guy for wanting to live in San Diego.
And hopefully the change in teams will help him bounce back from a season that was sub-par by his standards. He threw 20 interceptions in 2019 and posted his highest interception rate since 2016, though he did still complete two-thirds of his pass attempts.
Rivers is not simply a great quarterback, he is also a prolific provider of source material for gifs. For that, none of us can thank him enough.
