Cary Angeline, Joe Sculthorpe sign UDFA deals

Only one NC State player was taken during the 2021 NFL Draft—Alim McNeill went to the Detroit Lions in the third round. That’s not terribly surprising since so many upperclassmen opted to stay in school for another year, though both Cary Angeline and Joe Sculthorpe will get their NFL shots this year.

Angeline signed as an undrafted free agent with the Arizona Cardinals, while Joe Sculthorpe inked a deal with the Atlanta Falcons. Both will have their work cut out for them to make a final roster.

The Cardinals are already pretty good offensively, though they did not get much out of the tight end position last season; no tight end on the roster had more than eight receptions in 2020. He can be an upgrade there but will need to show that he can be a more dedicated blocker.

Sculthorpe has loads of experience to lean on and played both guard spots last season, which should help him. The Falcons were among the worst rushing teams in the NFL in 2020.

Best of luck to both guys.
