AJ Cole, Joe Thuney earn first-team All-Pro honors

NC State alums AJ Cole and Joe Thuney continue to play at a high level in the NFL, and both were recognized yesterday by the Associated Press as first-team All-Pro players.

It’s the second time Cole has earned the distinction, and he’s also been named to the Pro Bowl for the third straight year. He averaged 50.4 yards per punt this season, so at least the Raiders had that going for them.

An AJ Cole fun fact: he is currently the NFL’s all-time leader in yards per punt. He’s neck-and-neck with Seattle’s Michael Dickson, who is basically the same age, so these two guys will be dueling for immortality for like 10 years. Wonder why the league never hypes this up.

Thuney is a first-time first-teamer and is also headed to the Pro Bowl for the second straight season. I don’t know what they have offensive linemen do at the Pro Bowl these days, seeing as it’s just a flag football game now. But it’s still a nice honor.
