NC State women’s basketball coach Wes Moore gets big raise, contract extension

Wes Moore is here for the long haul.

NCAA Womens Basketball: Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament - Notre Dame vs UNC Jim Dedmon-USA TODAY Sports

NC State announced on Thursday a contract extension for women’s basketball head coach Wes Moore, and that puts his salary at $750,000 per year. Moore interviewed for the Tennessee job this offseason, though it was never likely he was going anywhere. (Not that that should impact contract negotiations, mind you.)

Why leave, anyhow, when you have a chance to make a breakthrough in a way that your program has never seen before? Moore is a fantastic recruiter and a great coach too, and while his team was gutted by serious injuries this year, it still made the Sweet Sixteen.

The Reynolds Coliseum renovations were the implied commitment to women’s basketball, and this contract is the explicit one. Wes Moore should be here for a long while, and he’s capable of making NC State a consistent presence on the national level.

You get to host the first two games in the women’s hoops tournament when you’re a top-16 seed, and if nothing else, that’s a shit-ton of fun and worth extending Moore for the purpose. We got deeper ways to go, though.
