NC State scored 33 points in the first quarter to effectively bury Wake Forest on Thursday, and Sunday afternoon scored 31 in the first quarter to effectively bury Miami. The Hurricanes trailed by 20 after the opening quarter and by 32 at the half.
That was the thanks they got for being flexible and traveling to replace State’s scheduled game against Duke. Hey, they coulda said no.
Miami shot 8-31 from three and 9-31 from two. That is a symmetrical futility you will not see often. (And so basically, if anything, Miami should have attempted more threes.)
NC State had no such issues, shooting 65% inside the arc and 40% beyond it. The Wolfpack broke Miami in half with seven made threes in the first quarter, and Wes Moore had a lot of garbage time to work with after that. He’s been able to liberally spread the minutes around over the last two games, which is useful for a team that wouldn’t mind developing a little more bench depth.
The Pack takes an extended break now and will be back on Dec. 31 at Georgia Tech.
