NC State women’s hoops picks up commitment from 5-star guard Jessica Timmons

NCAA Womens Basketball: ACC Tournament NC State vs Florida State Jim Dedmon-USA TODAY Sports

Wes Moore has done an excellent job of taking on-court success and turning it into wins in recruiting, which seems like a straightforward thing but definitely isn’t. NC State lands top-100 players regularly nowadays, and the latest is Jessica Timmons, a five-star recruit in the class of 2021.

Timmons is the No. 45 player in the class, in ESPN’s estimation. More importantly, look at these highlights and watch where she takes these shots:

A gunner like this in Moore’s perimeter-oriented offense? Sounds good, sign me up.

The Pack’s recruiting efforts really started to go from good to great with Elissa Cunane, who was a top-60 prospect in the 2018 class. In 2019, Moore signed three top-100 players, including a couple of top-35 prospects in Jakia Brown-Turner and Jada Boyd. Brown-Turner finished second in the Freshman of the Year vote this season.

NC State went on later to add Elle Sutphin, a top-50 player in the 2020 class, who decided to re-classify and enroll early in college as a member of the 2019 group. The Pack signed two top-100 players for 2020—Genesis Bryant and Dontavia Waggoner.

Timmons is the first member of State’s 2021 class.

When you can go from selling a hypothetical to selling demonstrable success, that matters a lot, and NC State in the last three years has advanced to back-to-back Sweet 16s while winning an ACC championship.

State is a power and a mainstay now, and the recruiting results follow.
