Because seniors are allowed to return for another year, the WNBA required players to declare their draft intentions one way or the other, with players who opt-in renouncing their remaining eligibility.
The deadline for players not still participating in the NCAA tournament to make a decision was April 1, and while many prominent players did submit their names—including Louisville star Dana Evans—NC State seniors Kai Crutchfield and Kayla Jones were not among them.
This doesn’t necessarily mean that both players plan to return to NC State for another season, as they could always pursue professional opportunities overseas—and neither one appears likely to be selected in the draft, which is set for April 15.
But it ain’t exactly a bad sign, either. If they did decide to run it back, and with Raina Perez also expected to return, NC State would bring back its top six players from this season, guaranteeing that the Wolfpack will again be among the nation’s elite teams in 2022.
