The ACC held its women’s basketball media day on Tuesday (the men are up today), and NC State had Wes Moore, Saniya Rivers, and Madison Hayes on hand to discuss the upcoming season.
It’s a new era for the program, as there are only two players on the roster—Hayes and Azi James—who were around for the team’s last ACC title, way back in 2022. There are eight newcomers to the roster, including a half dozen freshmen, and NC State will have plenty to sort out early in the season.
Wes Moore wants a more consistent group this year.
No doubt 2023 was an odd one, with the Pack playing well early on and then fading down the stretch; its NCAA tourney exit was both abrupt and bitter. Saniya Rivers will play a big part in turning things around as she steps into more of a leadership role (“this is my first time as an upperclassman” made me chuckle), but this team’s ceiling may depend on how fast the freshmen develop. Should be fun.
