It’s been one hell of a month for the Pack.

NCAA Womens Basketball: ACC Conference Tournament Quarterfinals-NC State vs Notre Dame William Howard-USA TODAY Sports

It was a hectic weekend so I couldn’t give the women’s basketball team its proper due on Saturday for put together yet another impressive performance against a top five-opponent. Quick starts have been a staple of this season for the Wolfpack and that continued against Colorado, as the Pack held a 22-6 lead after the first quarter.

NC State began the game on a 9-0 run and never trailed, and spent the bulk of the day up double figures. Colorado managed to trim the lead to 11 late in the second quarter, but the Pack pushed the advantage back to 15, and led by as many as 27 points in the second half. This was a beat-’em-down.

Colorado 60 74 81.1 105.4
NC State 78 74 105.4 81.1

The big difference was shooting inside the arc: State knocked in 51.1% of its twos, while Colorado shot only 36.1%. The Pack’s interior defense has been pretty stingy early on.

River Baldwin led all scorers with 24 points on 8-11 shooting from the floor and 8-8 shooting at the free throw line. For the game, State was 20-21 on freebies.

NC State returns home to host Vanderbilt on Wednesday as part of the women’s ACC/SEC Challenge. The Pack will have moved up in the polls by then, no doubt.
