It took a bit for NC State to find its footing on Wednesday night, but the Wolfpack hit the gas down the stretch of the first half and did not look back in a rout of Old Dominion.
After the Pack fell behind 19-18 in the second quarter, it closed out the half on an 18-2 run, limiting Old Dominion to two points over the final 8:29 of the period. State then went ahead and scored the first eight points of the third, just to make sure this game was good and settled.
Pace and Efficiency
A game is as straightforward as the shooting disparity sometimes, and tonight not even a herculean effort on the offensive boards would have done a whole lot for Old Dominion—not that NC State was interested in providing that opportunity.
The Monarchs were a ghastly 9-43 (20.9%) inside the arc, which tells you everything you need to know about this one.
State, meanwhile, was outstanding from the field, even with Aziaha James having an off night. James still netted 16 points thanks to 8-10 shooting from the free throw line, and was one of six Pack players in double figures. Zoe Brooks scored 13 points and handed out 11 assists, while Madison Hayes led all scorers with 17 points on the strength of her 4-5 shooting from three.
Now it’s on to league play for State, which will be off until heading to UVA on Dec. 31.
