A fine way to bounce back.

NC State was off and running from the opening tip, literally, on Thursday night, as Aziaha James scored the game’s first bucket seconds into the game, putting the Wolfpack on its way to a romp over Virginia. The Cavaliers bore the brunt of a team more than ready to move past that tough loss at Virginia Tech.

State had this thing in cruise control by the end of the first quarter—the Pack opened 11-18 from the floor and 8-9 from the free throw line to take a 31-13 lead after 10 minutes.

Zoe Brooks had a big night, pacing the team with a career-high 19 points, and she also finished with a career-best four steals. State also got 17 from Madison Hayes, who continued her breakout season at the offensive end; James scored 15, Mimi Collins had 14, and Laci Steele had a career-best 13.

The one real blemish on the night was State’s poor defensive rebounding, but Virginia made just 35.6% of its twos anyhow, so it didn’t matter. The Wolfpack, meanwhile, shot 51.2% inside the arc, to go with 43.5% from three and 82.6% at the free throw line.

The victory completes the season sweep of Virginia, which fell to 0-4 in league play. State is off until next Thursday, when it travels to Miami.
